Exploring interactive educational assignments

Let's make some interesting and authentic assignments/problems/etc using real data and/or codes

I am interested in how Astrophysics is taught to physicists and astronomers at university level. It is widely acknowledged that active learning boosts student understanding and retention. However, many courses focus on classic written problems and exams. Therefore, I am interested in exploring how we can combine our knowledge of tools, data and codes to make authentic assignments/challenges for students, so they get a truer sense of what research is like while also learning.

I'm looking for people who work with tools/data/codes etc that they think could be suitable for assignments. By the end of the hackathon I'd hope to have some first drafts of assignments ready.
