Challenge Project

AI tools in our research

We will explore Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Astronomy and our research. Rather than covering formulas and definitions related to Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine learning (ML), we'll explore numerous AI tools and strategies for implementation. Let's investigate practical applications of AI and share experiences, and discuss the impact of AI. The session aims to foster learning, facilitate discussion, and inspire anticipation of AI's impact on astronomical research. Main Discussion points: 1. Overview of AI tools in Astronomy : Various AI tools (Large Language Models; LLM e.g. chatGPT, Gemini, Claude, and more.) 2. Utilizing AI tools : data analysis, decision-making, translation, time management, planning, coding and paper writing. 3. Discuss impact of AI : Ethical implications in research, reliability, environmental impact (e.g. carbon footprints), AI's role as an aid versus a primary contributor and the future of Astronomy with AI. 4. Collaborative Opportunities : Potential collaborative projects with open source LLM; c.f. E. Perkowski et al. (2024), Yu Yang. Li et al. (2024)
